Bebos send a 20.5 light year text message from Earth

AuthorPhilip Hickey CategoryBebo, Hawkin DateAugust 14th, 2008

Social networking site Bebo is running a competition until September 30 this year, that will allow the best 500 entrants to sent a text or picture message to our most likely galactic neighbors in Gliese 581c, a star system 20.5 light years away. They will be sent using the giant RT-70 radar telescope from the Ukrainian Nation Space Agency due to arrive in 2029.
If by the most inconceivable coincidence some opposable thumbed, bipedal, intelligent and non suicidally destructive race of creatures pick up this radio signal and reply we should be due a response in 2050.That is of course if there will be anybody intelligent enough to answer back on Earth.
I quote Stephen Hawkin “Primitive life is very common and intelligent life is fairly rare,” he then quickly added: “Some would say it has yet to occur on earth.”
