Journey-Don’t stop believin’
So why is it that a song that first appeared in 1981 on Journey’s album ‘Escape’ is extremely popular and well known today?? Almost everybody can relate and straight away recognise:
Just a small town girl, livin in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin anywhere
What once was the making of what some may call a power ballad is now a well known tune sung by many at pubs and clubs. Back at the time it was released it may only have been popular with Journey fans and those who liked that sort of music but now anybody who’s anybody knows the song.take this for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDBvjVr1wk0&feature=related So why the change? and one thing i’ve noticed, it’s almost replaced the national anthem as the last song to be played!! It was almost a tradition at the likes of 21st’s and 40th’s for the national anthem to be played and thats when people knew when to start leaving but now people are satisfied and ready to go as soon as don’t stop believin’ is played.
Now don’t get me wrong it is an amazing song but its a mystery how this song resurfaced and gained much more popularity then when it was first released. This maybe due to the multiple appearances of this song in films and tv shows such as, The wedding singer, family guy, scrubs and south park.
The reason im writing this post aswel is the fact that it is an inspirational song. It goes through the story of a lonely girl and boy who are encouraged never to give up and to keep on believing. The song is almost like a mantra to follow your dreams.

I would be glad to hear anyone’s views or ideas on why this song is so popular now.

Hi Janie try this as your url [youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDBvjVr1wk0&feature=related] instead and see what happens!?
Hi Philip thanks for the tip, but I already had that link in there, its the first one…Did you not read it properly
The main reason I understand the song is so popular is because its featured in the last episode of the Sopranos, Tony chose it on the jukebox when the family were out in the dinner. This was near the end in the last episode and we all know how popular that show was and still is in Ireland and especially in Ballyer!!!
So in my opinion that is why I beleive the song has become so Popular.
Hope this helps.
Gareth.
Yes that was another of the programmes I noticed it was in.Personaly Im not a fan of the Sopranos but your right this could be one of the reasons too.
Thanks Gareth
Your welcome Janie.

I was just trying to help janie, you dont understand what I was saying, thats fine but there is no need for that reply.
Hi Philip, yes i appreciate you trying to help but I wasnt trying to be smart with comment.Sorry you took it the wrong way.It was just some blogging banter…hence my smiley face

This track by Journey sounds as good now as it did when first released in 1981/82. I was a big fan of Jouney then and am pleased it’s appreciated by today’s younger generation again. It’s a pity Steve Perry won’t get back together with the band though, as he is one of the best vocalists of all time..
