A joke heard worldwide…..but why do so many people hate Bono for no good reason?
Today Bono’s name was mentioned and followed by a murmur of negative comments like “i hate him” and “absolute prick”. I stopped and wondered why there is such a negative stigma attached to this man who seemed to have achieved so much. Was it jealousy? a dislike for U2? or is there an actual reason to hate Bono?
Personally I don’t have a dislike for Bono… in fact I quite admire him. Yes I do agree that he has a certain arrogant air but if I had succeeded in bringing people together to help third world nations I would feel pretty good about myself too.
U2 are probably the most well known band in the world. With exceptional music and heartfelt lyrics its a band hard to forget. I think it is a huge achievement especially being from Ireland having such worldwide fame.
Having a traumatic childhood with his mother dying of a brain hemorrhage while he was 14 and an unhealthy relationship with his father shaped the contents of his lyrics. Bono has a reputation of being one of the worlds best performers with bursting energy and an amazing connection to his fans, even pulling them onstage.
Bono has been involved with numerous charity acts like campaigning with Greenpeace and amnesty international. One of his biggest achievements was organising the live 8 concert in 2005 alongside Bob Geldof, the aim of this to pressure world leaders to increase aid, cancel Third World debt and improve the terms of trade with the world’s poorest countries.
Everybody is entitled to their own opinions and maybe its just me surrounded by enemies of Bono but personally I can’t find a valid reason to dislike this man…….I actually can’t seem to find a reason not to love him….
So if you are one of these people who don’t like Bono and scowl at his name stop and ask yourself why do I hate Bono?…
Or maybe its because we in Ireland have a natural put me down attitude as in “who does he, she, they think they are” thing going on “Lord almighty? does he?” in Bon’s case perhaps, but if you can laugh at yourself then your not Irish , I say, elect Bono, after all he won’t be on the take now will he. I also say fair play to him and long live Bono the “good” king
Im afraid I am one of these ‘I hate Bono’ people…But I havnt the slightest idea why?? I like some of U2’s songs but most of the time when their songs come on i feel a slight hatred…its a mystery???????
I could never stand Bono. i’ve seen U2 live and yes they were great, but BB King blew them off the stage in the Love comes to Town tour. I think he is too mouthy,arrogant, a bit simple minded. I know he does good work, but he irritates me with his pseudo Rock n’ roll comments etc. painful!!!

I wouldn’t exactly call him “mouthy”, I think he obviously has high opinions about things and is not afraid to say them…Personally I couldn’t hold it against him for being slightly arrogant…If I had achieved so much in my life I would suspect I would be arrogant too…I also dont think he could be simple minded to have imputted such ideas to a worldwide event like live8…Don’t get me wrong im not a huge Bono fan I just don’t understand the problem people have with him…Maybe he’s just that person you love to hate…
Im American and I have lived in Ballyfermot nearly 2 years. I have heard so many negative things about Bono, but I want everyone to know he is an incredible humanitarian and is very very proud to be Irish. I find it so difficult to absorb negative remarks from the Irish. U2 is one of the best rock bands for several decades.

You say you give your money to charity, let me ask you have you travelled half way around the world to help third world nations and work with some of the biggest charities in the world to actually make a difference?This is something very little of us do and will do. Most celebrities don’t give a shit about anyone but themselves and use their fame to promote only themselves…Bono uses his fame positvely and gets more abuse than all of these celebs…I find this hard to understand. Also its not just about “giving” money to these countries but he brought world famous bands together in live 8 to earn more money than he alone could give. You are indeed entitled to your opinion…but this is mine

OMFG..some of your comments are just..youre praising Bono? Somebody mentioned Bono-haters primarily being jelaous irishfolk..thats not right. Im norwegian, and most of my friends fucking hate Bono and U2. He’s such an arrogant prick. I wish he just disappeared. A planecrash would be suitable, with all U2 members at once.
Some of you cant understand why he’s “hate-able”. Well, ill give you a couple of pointers. His fucking voice, when he sings. He sounds like an idol-participant trying to be rock-n-roll to hard. He’s trying to be Steven Tyler (no, im not Aerosmith fan either), but he cant get quite there. Stupid fuck.
Secondly, their fucking music videos. Who makes those? Probably someone their own age. Standing on a plain with the wind blowing, while Bono is trying hard to be steven tyler when he sings, but presenting himself as a fucking douche in the prosess. With his sidekick, “The Edge”. And lastly, but not least, the charity work has to be commented. Now, charity work is always commendable. But in Bono and U2s case its not. Now im going to be a bit political here. U2 and Bono (the cunt) has millions of dollars on their private bank account, they are evading taxes from the irish state cos they dont like to be taxated like everyone else (like they are so fucking special). At the same time they are pretending to be fighing for africas cause or whatever. Using private capitalist companies (like apple) that extort africa for natural resources. In other words, Bono is just another useless artist, using “charity” to promote himself, and the companies supporting him. Apples Ipods are produced using natural resources from wartorn countries in Africa, like Congo, stolen from them for nothing. Of course they need pretentious Bono to promote them.
