Champix
I started using champix in August 2008. I took them for about two months and over that two months I started to lose control. I would not advise anybody to take champix or any drug related to it. It has taken me until now to get back to normal. While under the influence I was unreasonable, crabby, depressed and I suffer illusions. I was highly strung and imagined I could control every situation and got really angry when I couldn’t. All I can say is I am a smoker now and maybe in the future I will stop but never again would I try champix. I have not been talking about this on the blogs as I articulate my frame of mind or feelings.
Hi Dolores I started using champix the same time as you and I agree with all you have said. I didn’t take them as long as you did because I couldn’t cope with the irritated state I found myself in. I did however stop smoking and am pleased about that. I have put on a stone and started walking twice a week.
That’s very scary Dolores, did a doctor give it to you or can you buy it over the counter. I’m also a smoker love to give them up but afraid I’ll put on more weight as I am overweight as it is.
I never smoked but I did have people around my who did try Champix, more than one at the same time. The side effect of chanpix can be felt within a 5 meter radius, it’s not good at all.
I’m sorry but I could have swore that somebody just like you was on the Forums and left one comment, one bloody comment, must have broke her shaggin’ nails over it.
The effort of it all
Ermm… that last comment really must have motivated you, take a look at this http://www.ballyfermot.ie/content/view/414/1/
Hi. Dolores. My wife used champix for 10 days before christmas last . She now has a numbness in her right leg and arm and was in hospital for nearly 3 weeks. Docs didnt seem to think there was a link to the drug but she was 100% before taking it and now she is like this have you or anyone geared me any similar cards?
Hi Rob
I have never heard about the physical effects but lots of mental issues have arisen due to the champix. I hope your wife gets well let us know of her progress and send best wishes to her
Hi Kay
I was on your florist site today. It made me look through although I have absolute no interest in flowers, your site made me want to look through it to see where you where and exactly what you did, I even went onto the link buds & berries. Its amazing how a site laid out interestingly will initiate an interest where none lies.
Maybe I’ve got off lightly then! I’ve have a few days of brief nausea, a couple of days of sleeplessness, but I’ve learnt to take it after a meal, and not too late at night. The cravings have gone, cigarettes now taste of nothing, and when I smoke one I get bored and it seems pointless! Mind you, quit day is today, so who knows how tomorrow will go…
I took pictures as I completed the starter pack: http://champixpix.tumblr.com/
Hi All, I took champix in July and I have to say I had no side effects but I did start smoking again so I went back on champix I have stopped smoking and this time I’ll stay stopped but to date no side effects thank god.
Hi Rob,
I was on Champix for 2 months, June and July 2008. In November 2008 I was diagnosed with pulmonary embolism and a thrombulus in my cartoid artery. In the last six months I have undergone many tests for cancer, etc. Nothing has been found. My doctors conclusion is a rare side effect to this drug. I did however, remain a non-smoker. This has now been reported to Health Canada.
Hi,
Sorry to drag up and old post. It’s nice to see some locals talking about the same topic. I’m from Clondalkin. I’m off to the GP in the morning to get this champix and give it a shot.
I’m after picking up a bit of info from reading your blog.
Thanks
I have now been hypnotised and have not smoked since the 16th September. I paid €250 and it was worth it as you get your money back in a month by not smoking. When I was been hypnotised I thought it was not working as I was aware of everything that was happening. I think he really did put something into my sub concious. Check out their website

Hi Dolores
I’m really DETERMINED to stop for good
Ive done all the usual stuff. I’m now ready to try this hypnotist guy. Before I do can you tell me how you are doing and if your still off them.(I really hope you are)
Hi Stephen
Yes I am still off the cigarettes and feeling good. The 16th of December will make it 3 months. I dont even want to smoke and I dont like the smell of smokers. I feel if you really want to stop you should try the hypnotise. It worked for me and I honestly dont think I will smoke again. I hope you do it let me know how you get on.
I just cannot see the logic of taking a pill which has dangerous sdie effects to quit smoking. Especially when there is a drug free alternative in hypnotherapy. It actually makes me quite angry at the pharmaceutical industry when I read about people who have had life threatening side effects.
Hypnosis can help you to give up cigarettes and surely, it should be your FIRST port of call rather than playing russian roulette with your health by taking pills like these.
I have been on champix since the 1st Nov 09 I gave up cigarettes up two weeks later I hav’nt had any bad side effects just really weird dreams I get the odd craving but im surviving I never want to smoke again
Well Dolores
I did it. Iwent through the whole of christmas without smoking!.AND IT WAS EASY!!! I went to see Sean on the 4th December (one month today).I made the appointment as soon as I got your reply. (The lady on the phone was really helpful). I have to say it was a lot different than I thought it would be just like you I felt as if Iwas awake the whole time. Althought he did say that I wouldn’t be asleep. I found him very professional no weird stuff. He only charged me 200 euro he was quite for december He told me it is usually a quite month. Anyway A BIG thank you to you D for your help and support. You are really helping people to make the desision. Keep up the good work. Have a happy and healthy new year
